Can MacKenzie Shoot Her Way To The Olympics?
We hope so! Our regular readers will remember young phenom MacKenzie Martin of Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club. For those not familiar, 14 year old MacKenzie is the current sub junior national champion in 3 different rifle categories. She finished 2nd in the country in the NRA indoor Air Rifle sectionals held last year. This past summer she finished 16th in the country against the current Olympians, Army marksmanship Unit and other college shooters. At the junior olympics she was the first 14 year old to shoot a score of 392 out of 400 possible points. MacKenzie will attend the Olympic tryouts to attempt to make the team, but especially to gain the experience to be better prepared for future Olympic trials. MacKenzie in action.
Next month MacKenzie will be heading to Anniston, Alabama to tryout for the US Olympic Air Rifle Team for the 2012 London Olympics. The Olympic Team Trials for air rifle will be held in two stages. Olympic Airgun Trials Part 1 will be held Dec. 2-4, 2011 in Anniston, Ala. at the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) - South facilities. The second trial will be held Feb. 24-26, 2012 at the CMP's North facility in Camp Perry, Ohio. The Olympic Team selection will be the aggregate of the four match courses and two best finals.
MacKenzie gained vast experience through local junior shooting programs, many of which were made possible through funds donated to The GOAL Foundation. Please consider donating to The GOAL Foundation to support the continued development of juniors in MA.
