Another GOAL - TMU Member Heading to the Trials!
Sonya May, (pictured above) another TMU Shooter is heading to the trials.
Sonya May who has been a Taunton Marksmanship Unit shooter for several years, will be joining MacKenzie Martin at the Olympic Trials this winter.
The TMU team has traveled to Colorado Springs, Colorado and earned a Silver medal in April 2011. After school let out in June, the TMU was off to Camp Perry, Ohio for the Jr. Olympics Air Rifle and medaled. Next it was on to Fort Benning for USA Nationals in Air Rifle and Small Bore, both of which Sonya shoots. Small Bore was shot outdoors at 50 yards, and Sonya scored her own personal best, besides receiving awards.
Next month Sonya will join teammate MacKenzie Martin and will be heading to Anniston, Alabama to tryout for the US Olympic Air Rifle Team for the 2012 London Olympics. The Olympic Team Trials for air rifle will be held in two stages. Olympic Airgun Trials Part 1 will be held Dec. 2-4, 2011 in Anniston, Ala. at the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) - South facilities. The second trial will be held Feb. 24-26, 2012 at the CMP's North facility in Camp Perry, Ohio. The Olympic Team selection will be the aggregate of the four match courses and two best finals.
Sonya is a High School Junior, good academically, and has a National Ranking as a shooter, which college coaches look for. She continues to improve her national standing and is looking for a college with a good shooting program to help pave her way to the US Olympic Team, and an Olympic Gold Medal in Air Rifle and in Small Bore.
On behalf of the entire GOAL Staff, we wish Sonya well this winter, knock those X-Rings out Sonya!
